On what looked like a fantastic batting track Wargrave batted first and made a positive start through Woods and Lunn. Having reached 68 without loss Harpsden turned to Tom Ham who immediately struck removing Lunn with assistance from Hodgkiss. Ham was to go on to remove two more Wargrave batsmen to end with tidy figures of 3-34. With the openers removed the rest of the Wargrave batsmen struggled to get going not helped by some tidy bowling from Harpsden. Most of the Bowlers found success and the wicket were shared around accordingly.

Chasing just 180 on such a fine pitch Harpsden were in confident mood starting their innings. But having reached just 80 for the loss of 4 wicket things did not look so promising. But as is often the case, two men stepped up to meet the challenge and saw Harpsden home. Ian Nugent hit some lusty blows on the way to 47* but star of the show was Neil Sweet who batted superbly for a chanceless 83*. These two carried Harpsden to victory with 6 wickets still in hand.

Harpsden won by 2 wickets

Harpsden got the season off to a terrific start on Saturday with a well earned win against Woodcote.
After loosing the toss things looked ominous early on for Harpsden as James Wheeler was making full use of the good wicket and was making finding the boundary look easy. However, the bowlers stuck to the task well and supported by some excellent catching wickets were falling. In particular Danny Hayden took a fantastic diving effort on the boundary to record an early contender for catch of the season.
Although wickets were falling at the other end it was Wheeler who was proving to be the thorn in Harpsden side. It was left to two debutants Chris Mitchell and James Paice who took a well judged catch to remove the danger man for 82. The bowling was very tight towards the end of the innings and restricted Woodcote to 178.
In response Harpsden stuttered early on, like the old sports car left in the garage for a few months but after a couple of early set backs Harpsden were soon up and running.
Hodgkiss and Bryan were finding the boundary at regular intervals and a partnership of 67 was soon put together to take Harpsden over the 100 mark.
However when these wickets fell the match swung back in the favour of Woodcote who were bowling well and starting to take there catches in the field.
What happened next will be remembered for years to come, with the score at 154/8 George Hepburn set about smashing the ball to all corners, his innings of 25 off just 9 was finished off with a huge six which took Harpsden to victory.

Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging

This weblog ("blog") is designed to be used by everyone involved with Harpsden Cricket Club. If you are writing the report for the Henley Standard, you can post it here too. If you have taken photos, you can post them here. If you want to respond to something that has been written, you can make a comment. It's very user-friendly, very easy to do. It's not just for looking at, it's interactive.

I'm also planning it as a cricket portal - the first place you'd look for ALL your cricket news. There are already links to the BBC cricket pages, to Aussie cricket, to a site which explains in detail how cricket works (mainly for me, but I daresay other people will find it useful). Let me know what other sites to add to the list.

There will also be links to other clubs, for directions, and I'll put those up as we go along.

HOW YOU CAN USE THE BLOG

Although I have set it up, it is in no way "mine". The idea is that everyone can join in - it's very simple to do, and doesn't need any computer expertise.

There are two basic ways to use this site:

1. The easiest way is to read other people's posts. Then, if you want to join in and make a comment, you click on the comment button at the bottom of the post, make your comment in the box, and then click publish. These can then be read by all those with access to the blog. It is a slo-mo conversation between all the blog users (in the way that email is a slo-mo conversation between two people).

2. The other way is to make a post yourself. If you would like to be able to do that, you will need to email me: joannacary@ukonline.co.uk This is because, at the moment, I am the "owner" of this blog. Once you sign up to make posts (I have to do a litle light clicking), you will become a co-owner. You can also post digital photographs direct, and it is an incredibly easy process - you click in just the same way as you would when you make an email attachment.

Blogger can be a little temperamental, and occasionally there are problems uploading, but it is generally reliable and easy to use. Any problems, email me and I'll try to help sort it out.
