Stevens Brothers dominate Erratics

Saturday saw Harpsden entertain London Erratics in a 40 over match. The Harpsden skipper won the toss and elected to bat first which proved to be a good decision as the Harpsden openers Paice and Grimmer dominated the early contest. This dominance was continued until drinks as both batsmen completed their fifties just before the break. The Erratics managed to dismiss both openers in quick succession that brought brothers Toby and Will Stevens to the crease.

The Stevens boys set about accumulating runs, with younger brother Toby leading the charge. In fact when Toby had reached his maiden fifty for Harpsden Will had only scored 11 runs. Toby was to fall soon after reaching his fifty to a good catch from the substitute fielder Harpsden had provided. Hodgkiss came and went but not before displaying some of the power hitting he is capable of. With Ben Hancock joining W.Stevens the pair set about dispatching the bowling to all parts of the ground. Both went on to complete fifties of their own bringing the Harpsden total to a remarkable 330, and a total of 5 batsmen getting fifties.


In response to this mammoth total the Erratics started slowly and Andrews fell to a sharp catch by Hancock off the bowling of Brown. But with this wicket Masters came to the crease and with Rivington set about steadily accumulating runs. Unfortunatley for the Erratics just as Masters seemed to be getting on top of the bowling he was dismissed agonisingly short of his half century. After this the Harpsden total was never threatened, but Rivington batted solidly for his 76 and it took a wonderful ball from Hancock to dismiss him at the death. Harpsden went on to win this game convincingly.
